Spring Show 2025
The 2025 Spring show will be held on the 5th April.
Bulbs for the members classes went on sale at the September talk. There were only a few bags left after the October meeting, so your last chance to get some will be the AGM in November.
Daffodils: ‘Tahiti’ and ‘Stint’
Plant a single variety of 5 bulbs in a pot.
You will also be able to show vases of 1 or 3 cut stems of a single variety.
Tulips: ‘Sunny Prince’ and ‘Purple Prince’
Plant 5 bulbs of a single variety or a mix of them in a pot.
You will also be able to show vases of 3 cut stems either mixed or a single variety.
Tips
The maximum pot size is 8 inches although 6 inches is probably big enough for Stint and the tulips.
Timing is key as you want your bulbs to be flowering with perfect blooms on the day of the show.
If you plant your bulbs in pots you can move them around as needed. A shady spot will reduce the temperature and slow them down. They’ll have longer stems too, so better for the cut flower classes. A sunny spot will warm them up so they grow faster.
If you have a perfect daffodil bloom but it’s a little early, you could consider cutting it and keeping it in the fridge to keep it fresh. Just don’t remove it from the fridge until the day of the show, unless it isn’t fully open and needs a little longer to reach perfection.
Report from Spring Show 2024
The 2024 Spring Show held at Nailsea School on 6 April 2024. This was the Society’s 50th anniversary spring show as the first was held in 1974.
Despite the difficult weather conditions with an early but very wet Spring, the daffodil growers produced some very high-quality blooms with the top prize of the Daffodil Society’s Centenary Trophy going to Ivor Clark of Almondsbury. All the other classes were very well supported by exhibitors and almost 300 visitors attended the show during the afternoon. Everyone was well entertained by the Filton Community Brass Band who performed at their usual high standard.
Filton Community Brass Band
The Filton Community Brass Band regularly perform for us at our flower shows. It is a very high quality band and its wide range of music helps to create a perfect traditional flower show atmosphere.
